A second title, the EWA Latin American Light Heavyweight Championship, was introduced on September 20, 1997 and defended by El Mascarado until its unification with the main light heavyweight championship in 1998. It remained active until early-2000 when it was abandoned. The inaugural champion was Robbie Ellis who was billed as the first EWA Light Heavyweight Champion upon his debut in the promotion in November 1997. Steve Ramsey holds the record for most reigns, with three. At 296 days, Kidd USA's first reign is the longest in the title's history.
